Our golf course designer, Walter J. Travis will be inducated into the New York State Golf Association Hall of Fame this coming October. He was nominated by the Walter J. Travis Society, accompanied by a supporting letter from our member, Jim Cook. Travis was an Australian, by birth, but, New Yorker by choice, and one of America's greatest pioneers of golf. His early ideas about golf course design, golf journalism, significant influence on the careers of Bobby Jones and Harry Vardon, and design of NY state golf courses such as CC of Troy, Yahnundasis Golf Club, Onondaga Golf and Country Club, Garden City CC, Orchard Park CC (Park Club at time of design of the course), and, of course, Stafford CC, and member of the World Golf Hall of Fame certainly qualify him for the NYSGA's Hall of Fame. A very well deserved honor for the man whose design of green sites inspire modern day architects.
